Grape culture of the medieval Buda

Our guests can get an overview about the grape culture of the medieval Buda.

Dates are known about the viticulture of the area of Buda from the XIII. Century. The prosperous location of Buda and the good possibilities of transporting on the Danube served the upswing of the grape and wine culture on this area.

The grape and wine proved to be a good income source for the local vineyardists. The famous Buda wines were originating from 26 different wine hills and sites e.g. from the Gellért hill, the Nap hill and Sasad.

The biggest parts of these vineyards do now not exist. The vineyards around Buda are involved in the Etyek-Buda wine district.
